A cataract is the natural clouding of the eye's clear lens. As we age, the proteins within the lens gradually break down and clump together, causing the lens to become cloudy. This cloudiness can make vision appear blurry, hazy, or dim and may increase glare from lights, especially when driving at night.

Common symptoms of cataracts include:

  • Blurred or cloudy vision

  • Increased sensitivity to glare and bright lights

  • Difficulty seeing at night

  • Faded or yellowed colors

  • Frequent changes in eyeglass prescriptions

Cataracts develop gradually and are a normal part of the aging process. In the early stages, updated glasses or brighter lighting may improve vision. However, as cataracts progress and begin to interfere with daily activities such as reading, driving, or watching television, cataract surgery is the only effective treatment.

Our physician will evaluate your vision, discuss your symptoms, and help determine the right time for cataract surgery based on your individual needs and lifestyle.
